Eknath Shinde, the chief minister of Maharashtra, launched the electric bus service for the state transport or ST corporation. These electric buses are from Olectra Greentech Limited.
An official confirmed that 100 electric Shivneri busses will be operated on the Mumbai-Thane and Pune routes. Mr Shinde described ST services as Maharashtra’s lifeline and asked that they be of the highest quality and customer-oriented.
Eknath Shinde also launched a cleaning and beautification campaign for bus stops, in memory of the late Bal Thackeray. Makarand Anaspure, a Marathi actor, has been announced as ST’s Goodwill Ambassador.
In April 2022, ST buses transported three lakh passengers. This year the number has risen to 54 lakhs.
