Olectra Greentech Limited announces that it had received an order from the TSRTC or Telangana State Road Transport Corporation for 550 pure-electric buses. According to a press release, the order is the largest for electric buses in South India by TSRTC. It is crucial in Telangana’s move towards electric mobility for large-scale clean and green public transport.
K V Pradeep (chairman and managing director at Olectra Greentech Limited) stated that the order will supply 50 standard floor 12-metre intercity coach electric buses and 500 intracity electric buses with a low 12-metre floor. We are proud to be a partner with the TSRTC for their vision of a large-scale sustainable and economically viable public transport system. Soon, the electric buses are scheduled to be delivered in stages. Olectra’s pure electric buses are expected to significantly lower the noise and emissions levels in Hyderabad.
Olectra began its association with TSRTC in March 2019 with 40 electric buses. These electric buses are currently operating from Hyderabad Airport to different destinations.
50 intercity coach electric buses will travel between Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, and Hyderabad in Telangana. The fully air-conditioned electric buses can travel more than 325km on one charge.
The 500 electric buses that will travel within Hyderabad’s inner city segment will be operating in the intracity segment. A single charge can get an e-bus to travel more than 225km.
TSRTC Chairman MLA Bajireddy Govardhan stated that electric buses have been proposed to save the environment. In the next two years, the TSRTC plans to make 3,400 electric buses available in the state.
TSRTC MD VC Sajjanar stated that the corporation hopes to have electric buses in Hyderabad by March 2025 and that they are currently working on it.
In the initial phase, we will deploy 550 Olectra electric buses under GCC. Sajjanar said that all those buses would be used in stages.
