Olectra Greentech Limited (Olectra) has bagged a big project from Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC). The company will be supplying 100 electric buses to the pilgrim city-Tirupati.  This is under the FAME-II scheme of the Government of India. The value of the order is approximately Rs 140 crores.

Under the deal, these electric buses will be delivered over a period of 12 months.  These buses will be deployed at Alipiri (Tirupathi) Depot. During the contract period, Olectra will undertake the maintenance of the buses. With this new order, the total order book of Olectra has gone up to 1,450 buses.

The company Olectra Greentech is committed to its efforts to reduce pollution levels through its electric public transport system and has been operating its buses in Hyderabad, Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Surat, Dehradun, Silvassa, Goa, Himachal Pradesh, and Kerala, and will now cater to multiple locations in AP.

These electric buses are 9-meter air-conditioned buses that have a seating capacity of 35+D. The lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery installed in the bus enables it to travel around 180 kms on a single charge, based on traffic and passenger load conditions. The buses are equipped with a regenerative braking system which allows the bus to recover part of the kinetic energy lost in braking. The high-power AC & DC charging system enables the battery to recharge fully in 3-4 hours.
