Voltai, a mobility startup backed by Aboitiz Power Corporation through 1882 Energy Ventures, plans to expand its motorcycle battery-swapping network in the Philippines from 2027, with a medium-term target of around 1,000 battery-swapping stations.
The company currently operates 15 battery-swapping stations across Metro Manila, strategically located at Cleanfuel gasoline stations. Since launching in October 2025, Voltai has established what it describes as the Philippines’ largest two-wheeler electric vehicle (EV) battery-swapping network.
Nico Policarpio, Co-founder and Chief Product Officer of Voltai, said the company’s current network density is sufficient to support its targets over the next year, with further expansion expected from 2027. The company’s immediate priority is to strengthen coverage across Metro Manila before expanding to areas north and south of the capital.
During the first half of 2026, Voltai conducted pilot programmes with logistics and delivery companies to test and refine its fleet operations. Its pilot partners included JRS Express and Xpress, a ride-hailing service backed by Cebuana Lhuillier.
According to Voltai, several of its initial pilot partners are now moving towards commercial agreements, indicating growing demand for its electric mobility and battery-swapping solutions.
Voltai Offers Battery-Swapping Ecosystem for Commercial Fleets
Voltai’s ecosystem combines electric two-wheelers, battery-swapping stations, fleet management software, a rider mobile application and after-sales support. The company provides these services through a leasing model with a fixed fee, targeting logistics, food and beverage delivery, and ride-hailing companies.
The company said pilot fleet operators have achieved 20% to 60% cost savings through the leasing model, partly by reducing concerns related to spare parts, maintenance and repairs.
Voltai’s electric motorcycles can use two battery packs to achieve a range of up to 140 kilometres, with a maximum speed of approximately 80 km/h and a carrying capacity of up to 200 kg.
The company’s fleet management platform provides real-time information on vehicle locations, trip history, distance travelled and routes. It also tracks the amount of tailpipe emissions avoided through the use of electric motorcycles.
Voltai Eyes Cebu and Davao Expansion
Beyond Metro Manila, Voltai plans to expand its battery-swapping network into Cebu and Davao over the longer term. The company said its strategy is focused on supporting the electrification of commercial mobility while improving operating efficiency for fleet operators and riders.
Voltai operates under 1882 Energy Ventures, the startup and innovation arm of AboitizPower, which focuses on energy decentralisation and mobility solutions as part of the Philippines’ broader energy transition.
