Olectra Greentech Limited has become the first electric bus manufacturer in India to deploy 4,000 electric buses on roads across the country, marking a significant milestone in the nation’s transition towards sustainable public transportation.
The company commemorated the achievement by handing over its 4,000th electric bus to Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri during the flag-off ceremony of 297 Olectra electric buses inducted into the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) fleet. The event was attended by senior officials from the Government of Himachal Pradesh, HRTC and Olectra Greentech.
With the latest deployment, Olectra has expanded its electric bus footprint across multiple states and cities in India. According to the company, its fleet has collectively covered more than 730 million kilometres, helping prevent over 650,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions while supporting cleaner public transport operations.
Olectra said the milestone strengthens its position in India’s electric mobility sector, with its buses serving millions of passengers and offering lower operating costs alongside environmental benefits.
Commenting on the achievement, Mahesh Babu, Managing Director of Olectra Greentech Ltd., said the deployment of 4,000 electric buses represents a milestone not only for the company but also for India’s electric mobility industry. He added that the handover of the 4,000th bus to the Himachal Pradesh government, along with the induction of 297 electric buses into the HRTC fleet, reflects the growing confidence of public transport undertakings in electric mobility.
