Ford Motor Company has highlighted the next phase of its Universal Electric Vehicle (UEV) program, calling it one of the most ambitious and strategically important initiatives in the company’s history as it works to redefine electric vehicle affordability and efficiency.
Following the introduction of the UEV platform and its new production system in 2025, Ford said the project is now entering a critical stage focused on addressing the electric vehicle cost equation by applying fundamental engineering and physics-based efficiencies. The company aims to deliver greater value to customers while improving manufacturing scalability across future electric models.
Ford’s UEV platform has been designed as a flexible, universal architecture that can support multiple vehicle types. The first application of the platform will be a mid-size electric truck, scheduled for launch in 2027, which will serve as a cornerstone for Ford’s next generation of electric vehicles.
According to Ford, engineers approached the platform with a clean-sheet mindset, optimizing vehicle structure, materials, and systems integration to reduce complexity and enhance performance. The company said the UEV initiative is intended to balance affordability, capability, and efficiency while maintaining Ford’s core vehicle attributes.
As part of its engagement strategy, Ford has invited customers and enthusiasts to submit questions directly to the UEV engineering team, with responses to be shared in future updates. The automaker is also encouraging interested audiences to subscribe to its “Ford From the Road” platform for ongoing updates on electric vehicles and advanced mobility technologies.
Ford reiterated that the Universal Electric Vehicle project reflects its broader commitment to electrification and innovation, as the company accelerates efforts to deliver competitive, scalable, and cost-effective EV solutions for global markets.
