PT PLN (Persero) has expanded Indonesia’s electric vehicle (EV) charging network with the inauguration of four new SPKLU (Storage and Charging Centers), reinforcing its commitment to green transportation and the national decarbonization agenda. The launch also coincides with the 80th anniversary of Indonesia’s independence.
The newly operational SPKLU Centers are located at Rest Area 319B Pemalang, Rest Area 275A Tegal, Rest Area 228A Cirebon, and PLN UP3 Cirebon. These additions complement existing facilities at Rest Area 38B on the Jagorawi and Surapati Toll Roads in Bandung.
Unlike standard charging points, SPKLU Centers are large-scale facilities equipped with at least 10 charging connectors, integrated management systems, and dedicated lounges, offering EV users a faster and more convenient charging experience.
Local and Industry Support
Pemalang Regency Regional Secretary Heriyanto welcomed PLN’s initiative, describing it as a significant step toward reducing emissions in the transport sector.
“The presence of this SPKLU Center benefits not only EV users but also stimulates green innovation and investment,” he said during the inauguration at Rest Area 319B Pemalang.
Echoing this, PT Rosalia Indah Deputy Director Ipong Wiryawan, operator of Rest Area 319B, highlighted the environmental and service benefits of the collaboration.
“This is not just infrastructure—it is a commitment to carbon reduction and sustainable transport,” he noted.
PLN’s Commitment to Decarbonization
PLN’s Director of Retail and Commerce, Adi Priyanto, emphasized the company’s role in supporting the government’s target of achieving Net Zero Emissions by 2060.
“This SPKLU Center symbolizes progress in green transportation. With comprehensive technology and convenient services, it will be easier for people to transition to EVs,” he said.
Executive Vice President of Commercial Product Development, Ririn Rachmawardini, detailed the facilities at each site. Rest Area 319B Pemalang hosts 13 connectors, including six DC Ultra Fast Charging units, while Rest Area 275A Tegal and Rest Area 228A Cirebon each provide 10 connectors with a mix of AC Medium, DC Fast, and DC Ultra Fast chargers. PLN UP3 Cirebon includes 10 connectors for four-wheeled EVs and an additional facility for two-wheeled EVs, supported by lounge amenities.
Strategic Partnerships and Incentives
PLN’s Executive Vice President of Corporate Communications and TJSL, Gregorius Adi Trianto, underscored the importance of collaboration.
“We want to ensure EV users can charge easily, quickly, and conveniently. This requires strong synergy between PLN, local governments, and stakeholders,” he said.
To accelerate infrastructure development, PLN is offering discounts of up to 50 percent, or a maximum of Rp175 million, on new installations and additional power for SPKLU, SPBKLU (Public Electric Vehicle Battery Swapping Stations), and private charging stations serving public transport operators.
With these efforts, PLN aims to expand EV adoption, improve user convenience, and drive Indonesia closer to a sustainable, low-carbon future.
