Volvo Trucks has set a new benchmark in heavy-duty vehicle safety, with its Volvo FM and Volvo FH Aero models achieving the maximum five-star rating in the first-ever Euro NCAP safety assessment for trucks. The Volvo FM also emerged as the best overall performer among all tested trucks, solidifying Volvo’s reputation as a global leader in vehicle safety.
Pioneering Safety Standards for Heavy-Duty Trucks
Both the Volvo FM and Volvo FH Aero excelled across critical safety criteria, including driver support, collision avoidance, and protection for vulnerable road users. Euro NCAP also honored both models with its prestigious City Safe Award, recognizing their exceptional performance in urban traffic scenarios.
“This outstanding result makes me so proud as it confirms Volvo Trucks’ leading position in safety,” said Roger Alm, President of Volvo Trucks.
Exceeding Safety Expectations
The five-star rating highlights Volvo Trucks’ dedication to surpassing regulatory safety requirements. Equipped with advanced vision systems and active safety technologies, the Volvo FM and FH Aero are designed to protect not only drivers but also pedestrians and cyclists, particularly in city environments.
“Euro NCAP ratings will guide customers in their purchase decisions and challenge manufacturers to continuously improve safety,” said Anna Wrige Berling, Traffic and Product Safety Director at Volvo Trucks.
Euro NCAP Truck Test: A New Standard
Euro NCAP, known for its rigorous assessment of passenger cars since 1996, introduced truck testing in 2024 to promote safety in heavy-duty vehicles. The evaluations focused on three key areas:
- Safe Driving: Monitoring occupants, vision, and vehicle assistance systems.
- Collision Avoidance: Protection against frontal, low-speed, and lane departure collisions.
- Post-Crash Response: Providing comprehensive rescue information.
The five-star achievement by Volvo Trucks underscores its commitment to a future of zero accidents involving its vehicles.
A Milestone for Safer Roads
This landmark recognition not only reinforces Volvo Trucks’ legacy in safety innovation but also sets a new industry standard, encouraging other manufacturers to prioritize safety advancements.
