Securing Technological Leadership with Standard Essential Patents

LG Innotek has also made strides in securing Standard Essential Patents (SEPs), which are vital for implementing industry standards in advanced vehicle communication and charging technologies. Recently, the company registered five SEPs for its Electronic Vehicle Communication Controller (EVCC) technologies, which include methods for determining vehicle charging modes and controlling battery charging through communication channels.

SEPs, recognized by organizations such as the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), give holders a technological advantage and allow them to generate additional revenue through royalties. LG Innotek’s recent achievements in this area bolster its position in the competitive landscape of EV communication and charging control technologies.

Leading the Way in International and Domestic Standardization

As part of its strategy, LG Innotek is actively involved in shaping international standards for advanced vehicle components. The company is contributing to the ISO’s ongoing standardization process for LiDAR, with its experts participating as core members through the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards. Domestically, LG Innotek is working closely with the Korean Standards Association to lead national efforts in setting standards for autonomous cameras and in-vehicle communication systems.
