Hyundai Motor Group’s Euisun Chung Meets with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Strengthening Ties for Future Mobility in India

Euisun Chung, Executive Chair of Hyundai Motor Group, met with the Honorable Prime Minister of India, Shri. Narendra Modi, to discuss the future of mobility and potential avenues for cooperation between Hyundai Motor Group and India. The meeting, held at the Prime Minister’s office in Delhi, also saw the presence of Mr. Tarun Garg, Chief Operating Officer of Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL).

The discussions revolved around India’s evolving mobility landscape, with Executive Chair Chung emphasizing Hyundai’s commitment to India, given the country’s dynamic market conditions and progressive policy reforms. During the meeting, Chung expressed his gratitude to the Indian government for its continuous support of Hyundai Motor Group’s ventures in India, which began in 1996. He also invited Prime Minister Modi to the opening of HMIL’s new manufacturing plant in Pune, Maharashtra, which aims to bolster India’s “Make in India” initiative.

Highlighting the significance of the meeting, Chung attended the HMIL Stock Exchange Listing Ceremony, reflecting the Group’s strategic plans for growth in India. The new investment in the Pune plant is seen as a transformative move for HMIL, with backing from both the Government of India and the Government of Maharashtra. This initiative aligns with India’s ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’ vision, aimed at marking the 100th anniversary of India’s independence with significant developmental milestones.

Chung praised India’s cultural heritage during the discussions, stating, “India’s rich history and culture continue to inspire people worldwide. As India and Korea deepen economic collaboration, we can learn much from each other’s cultures and strengthen the foundations of our cooperation.”

Recognizing Hyundai’s long-standing presence in India, Chung noted that the company has become the country’s second-largest automobile manufacturer, crediting this achievement to the support of the Indian people and the government. He expressed Hyundai’s aspiration to further solidify its reputation as a “Home Brand” and the “Most Trusted Brand” in India.

Looking ahead, Chung affirmed Hyundai Motor Group’s commitment to supporting India’s transition to electric vehicles (EVs). He highlighted plans to launch new EV models, build an extensive EV charging network, and localize component manufacturing. “We will continue our cooperation with the Indian government to establish an EV ecosystem through the release of EV models, construction of EV-charging networks, and localization of parts,” said Chung.
