GAC, the renowned Chinese automaker, officially marked its entry into the Nepalese market with the grand opening of the first GAC AION brand showroom in Kathmandu. The event, held at the Thapathali showroom in the capital city, showcased GAC’s commitment to expanding its international footprint and introducing advanced electric vehicles to new markets.
Distinguished Guests and Grand Unveiling
The press conference and launch event saw the presence of notable figures including Chen Song, Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, GAC AION General Manager Gu Huinan, GAC International Deputy General Manager Wang Shunsheng, and prominent Nepalese business leaders Binod Chaudhary and Nirvana Chaudhary from the Chaudhary Group. Members of the Nepalese media and key opinion leaders were also in attendance to witness this significant milestone.
The new showroom, spanning approximately 210 square meters, features a striking full-glass curtain wall design, making it a prominent addition to Kathmandu’s automobile brand street. The highlight of the event was the unveiling of the AION Y, GAC AION’s flagship electric SUV, known for its aesthetics, spaciousness, advanced technology, and safety features. The AION Y has gained popularity among young consumers globally and is set to make a strong impression in Nepal.
Strategic Expansion and Future Plans
GAC AION plans to introduce several new models in Nepal this year, tailored to the country’s diverse terrain and climate. General Manager Gu Huinan emphasized the strategic importance of Nepal’s abundant water and electricity resources in supporting the growth of smart electric vehicles. “With GAC AION’s extensive expertise in the entire industrial chain of new energy vehicle manufacturing and sales, we will effectively support Nepal’s development of new energy vehicles and accelerate its energy transition,” said Gu Huinan.
This expansion into Nepal is a key component of GAC’s “1551” Internationalization Strategy, which aims to foster economic and trade cooperation between China and Nepal under the Belt and Road Initiative. GAC is committed to promoting regional economic green development through the introduction of sustainable mobility solutions.
