Beam Global, a leading provider of sustainable infrastructure solutions for transportation electrification and energy security, has announced that the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction has placed an order for 19 Beam EV ARC™ sustainable off-grid charging systems and 2 ARC Mobility™ trailers to facilitate the efficient transportation of these products.
The Beam EV ARC™ systems operate off-grid and are powered by renewable energy, generating and storing their own clean electricity. Each system is deployed without the need for construction, electrical work, or utility connections, offering a turnkey sustainable charging solution. These systems are designed to withstand floods up to 9.5 feet, winds of up to 160 mph, and continue providing electricity during blackouts, making them ideal for disaster preparedness for DHS component agencies. The ARC Mobility™ trailer is a specialized hydraulic transport system that allows for the relocation of EV ARC™ charging systems without additional equipment or site work.
Desmond Wheatley, CEO of Beam Global, highlighted the significance of these systems for correctional facilities and other secure locations, emphasizing the ability to rapidly deploy EV charging without disruptive construction projects, which can pose security risks or be prohibited altogether. The streamlined deployment process eliminates the need for security-clearing multiple-member construction teams and minimizes security concerns during lengthy projects. Secure environments present excellent opportunities for further EV ARC deployments, offering a unique and valuable solution to the EV charging space.
With government and private fleets increasingly transitioning to electric vehicles to reduce operating costs and achieve zero-emission targets, the demand for EV charging infrastructure is on the rise. Correctional facilities, both public and private, require EV charging solutions that mitigate the risks associated with traditional installation projects. The solar-powered EV ARC™ charging systems offer rapid deployment without digging, construction, electrical work, or additional teams typically required for such tasks.
According to data from the Federal Bureau of Prisons and the Census of State and Federal Adult Correctional Facilities, there are 4,527 correctional facilities in the U.S., including federal, state, and local facilities. Beam Global anticipates that these facilities will increasingly require EV charging infrastructure, particularly in regions where mandates such as the federal government’s requirement for all light-duty vehicles to be zero-emission by 2027 are in effect.
