At Auto China 2026, Volkswagen Group announced its most ambitious push into electrification and intelligent mobility, unveiling a sweeping product offensive alongside a bold “Agentic AI for All” strategy tailored specifically for the Chinese market.

Speaking at the Group’s Media Night, CEO Oliver Blume emphasized China’s central role in Volkswagen’s transformation, describing the showcase as a “crucial milestone” in reclaiming leadership in the region. Meanwhile, Ralf Brandstätter highlighted the rapid development of a new portfolio of smart electric vehicles, built within just 36 months under the “in China, for China” strategy.

Volkswagen revealed four global premieres, including the ID. AURA T6 SUV, the ID. UNYX 09 electric sedan, the JETTA X concept, and the AUDI E7X electric SUV. These models reflect a strong focus on local innovation, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), and digital cockpit experiences tailored to Chinese consumers.

The company plans to launch more than 20 electrified vehicles in China in 2026 alone, expanding to around 50 models by 2030. This includes battery electric, plug-in hybrid, and extended-range vehicles, marking the largest electrification campaign in Volkswagen’s history in the country.

A major highlight of the event was Volkswagen’s new AI roadmap. Starting in 2026, vehicles built on its China Electronic Architecture (CEA) will feature onboard AI agents powered by locally trained large language models. Unlike traditional voice assistants, these systems are designed to proactively understand user intent, execute complex commands, and deliver a more human-like interaction—all while ensuring that personal data remains securely within the vehicle.

Looking ahead, the next-generation CEA 2.0 platform, expected in 2027, will unify driving and cockpit systems into a single architecture powered by multi-agent AI. This move is positioned as a key step toward fully AI-defined vehicles.

The announcements underscore Volkswagen’s deepening localization strategy and its intent to compete aggressively in China’s fast-evolving electric vehicle market. With strong local R&D capabilities and partnerships, the company aims to blend global engineering standards with China-specific innovation.

Auto China 2026 marks the beginning of what Volkswagen calls its “next phase of growth” in China—one driven by electrification, intelligent systems, and AI-powered mobility.
