Hindustan Zinc, a prominent player in eco-friendly mining and metal production under the Vedanta Group, has officially introduced Electric Vehicle (EV) Trucks in collaboration with Inland EV Green Services Pvt Ltd. Launched at Rampura Agucha, these EV trucks, tailored for Indian conditions, feature a substantial 55-ton capacity and rapid charging, reaching 100% in just 90 minutes. Supplied by IPL Tech Electric Pvt Ltd., a Murugappa Group EV venture, these reliable trucks have successfully operated on Indian roads for over two years.

Hindustan Zinc’s Chairperson, Priya Agarwal Hebbar, expressed pride in the company’s move toward decarbonizing mining, aligning with approved SBTi targets. The deployment of these EV vehicles is a significant stride towards achieving carbon neutrality goals and establishing a global benchmark for responsible mining practices.

This initiative is part of Hindustan Zinc’s broader sustainability goals, aiming for net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. The collaboration with Inland EV Green Services aligns with the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi) approved goals, targeting a 50% reduction in absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions and an additional 25% reduction in absolute Scope 3 GHG emissions by FY2030.

Praveen Somani, Managing Director of Inland EV Green Services, emphasized the move towards sustainable mining as a major step towards carbon neutrality, setting a global standard for environmentally responsible practices. Hindustan Zinc’s commitment to sustainability also includes the earlier deployment of LNG-powered vehicles, with plans for a fleet of 180 such vehicles, showcasing progress toward net-zero emissions across the value chain by FY2050. The company’s dedication to sustainable practices has garnered global recognition, ranking 3rd globally and 1st in the Asia Pacific Region in the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment 2022 in the metal & mining sector.
