The Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) undertaking has received 10 new single-decker electric buses from the Hyderabad-based company Olectra Greentech, as confirmed by civic officials.
The delivery is part of an agreement wherein Olectra will supply a total of 2,100 single-decker buses on a wet lease model, handling drivers, fuel, and maintenance. This latest addition brings the count of Olectra’s 12-metre-long buses in the BEST fleet to 30, contributing to the overall fleet of 70 vehicles managed by the transport undertaking.
Despite delays due to a legal dispute, this move is aligned with BEST’s expansion plan to integrate more electric buses, including double-decker models, into its services in Mumbai and surrounding areas.
The BEST undertaking, with approximately 3,000 buses, serves as a crucial mode of transport for around 30 lakh passengers daily in Mumbai and neighboring regions.
