Srinagar Smart City Embraces Green Transportation with Tata Motors Ultra EV Electric Buses

Tata Motors, India’s leading commercial vehicle manufacturer, has announced the delivery of its advanced Ultra EV air-conditioned electric buses to Srinagar Smart City Limited. This milestone was achieved through TML Smart City Mobility Solutions (J&K) Pvt Ltd, a Tata Motors Group company. The delivery of these electric buses marks the beginning of a larger order aimed at providing, maintaining, and operating 100 electric buses in Srinagar and another 100 in Jammu. The initiative spans a 12-year period and is part of the Jammu & Kashmir Government’s Housing and Urban Development Department’s plan to establish an environmentally sustainable and financially viable public transport network for Srinagar.

These zero-emission electric buses are built on a cutting-edge next-generation architecture, incorporating the latest features and advanced battery systems. They are designed to offer a safe, comfortable, and convenient intra-city commuting experience in the city of Srinagar.

The inauguration of the electric bus fleet was overseen by notable dignitaries, including Shri Manoj Sinha, Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of J&K, Shri Arun Kumar Mehta, Chief Secretary of J&K, Shri Junaid Azim Mattu, Hon’ble Mayor of Srinagar, and other officials. The event showcased the collaborative efforts between the Government of Jammu & Kashmir, Municipal Corporation of Srinagar, and Tata Motors.

Shri Manoj Sinha, Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor, J&K, expressed his enthusiasm for the introduction of electric buses in Srinagar and emphasized the role they would play in transforming public transport in the city. He noted that this initiative is part of a broader plan for sustainable urban mobility and expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi for the government’s unwavering support to the Union Territory.

Prashant Goyal, Principal Secretary, Housing & Urban Development Department, J&K, highlighted the positive impact these electric buses will have on easing traffic congestion in J&K, improving last-mile passenger transport in Srinagar.

Athar Aamir Khan, CEO of Srinagar Smart City Ltd, emphasized that the Srinagar Electric Bus Project is a significant step in the integrated Sustainable Urban Mobility of the city. He highlighted the project’s potential to decongest the city and provide reliable, affordable, and comfortable public transport to citizens.

Asim Kumar Mukhopadhyay, Chairman of TML Smart City Mobility Solutions (J&K) Pvt Ltd, commented on the transformation of public transport in Srinagar. He praised Tata Motors’ role in providing cutting-edge electric buses that prioritize safety and comfort for passengers while aligning with the region’s pristine environment and eco-friendly initiatives.

Tata Motors has a substantial track record in supplying over 1,000 electric buses to various cities in India, collectively covering more than 9.6 crore kilometers with an impressive uptime of over 95%. The Tata Ultra EV electric bus stands out as a state-of-the-art vehicle for urban city commuting, delivering low energy consumption, operational efficiency, and zero emissions. The vehicle offers modern features, comfortable seating, and advanced safety features, making it a valuable addition to urban passenger transportation in the region.
