In a significant move towards sustainable transportation, Tata Motors, India’s largest automobile company, has inaugurated two cutting-edge research and development facilities. The unveiling includes an engine test cell specifically designed for the development of Hydrogen Internal Combustion Engines and essential infrastructure for hydrogen fuel storage and dispensing, catering to Fuel Cell and H2ICE vehicles.
These state-of-the-art facilities mark Tata Motors’ commitment to carbon neutrality and harnessing the potential of hydrogen as a clean energy source. Mr. Girish Wagh, Executive Director of Tata Motors, expressed confidence in hydrogen as the fuel of the future, especially for commercial vehicles. He stated that these advancements signify a new era in technological innovations and green mobility, driving both customers and the nation toward a greener future.

Among them was the flagship Prima tractor, featuring both a Hydrogen Internal Combustion Engine and Fuel Cell Technology. As part of a 2021 tender, Tata Motors delivered two cutting-edge Hydrogen Fuel Cell-powered buses to Indian Oil Corporation on September 25, 2023, further solidifying its position as a leader in green technologies.
