Tamil Nadu Government Releases Electric Vehicle Policy 2023

Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister, M.K. Stalin releases the electric vehicle (EV) policy 2023. Tamil Nadu has transformed into India’s leading Electric Vehicles (EV) manufacturing hub over the last five years. There is heightened interest from EV Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and component manufacturers who wish to establish their units in the State. Notwithstanding the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, the State has signed MoUs with an investment interest of nearly Rs. 24,000 crores and employment potential of 48,000 jobs in the EV value chain during this period.

The policy states that the government will encourage Chennai, Tiruchirappalli, Coimbatore, Tirunelveli, Madurai, and Salem to become pilot cities for electric mobility.

Tamil Nadu signed agreements that included an investment interest of almost Rs 24,000 crore, and 48,000 job opportunities in the EV value chain.

The government also announced that it would waive registration fees, road tax, and permit fees for electric vehicles.
