Rajkot Municipal Corporation To Set Up 18 EV Charging Stations

The Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) wants to set up EV Charging stations across the city of the public. Currently, there are 925 electric vehicles (518 electric two-wheelers) as of 31st March in the city.

RMC will establish charging stations on its own and will operate these stations for the next 2 years. The EV charging stations will be set up at 6 premises Racecourse, Pradhyuman park, and RMC buildings of central, west and east zones.

RMC plans to set up 18 pole-mounted and wall-mounted charging points for electric vehicles. RMC will pay the bill and plans to collect charges per unit from users.

RMC officials will allow 3 to 6 companies to set up the charging infrastructure. The companies will not charge RMC anything because they have the opportunity to market their company with this work.

RMC will be able to determine how many vehicles are coming per day, which technology is the best, how long it takes to charge an automobile, what number and types of two-wheelers, and four-wheelers come in for charging, and other details.

These charging stations are likely to be connected with IoT. This means that vehicle owners will be able to see via an app which charging areas are free, what level is occupied, and how long it would take, among other things.

The Union Ministry of Power plans to develop electric vehicle charging stations in cities with a 40 lakh plus population including Surat and Ahmedabad.
