BYD India, a pure-play electric car manufacturer, is planning to launch a new model and expand its distribution network, if necessary, said a senior official. The company is targeting 15,000 units of sales in the next year.
The company is currently rolling out the e6 multi-purpose vehicle, and in a few days, it plans to launch the Atto3 sport utility vehicle model.
Nearby, the company has a plant that can produce 10,000 units annually.
Senior Vice President, of the Electric Passenger Vehicle Business, Sanjay Gopalakrishnan stated that he will increase the capacity if necessary.
According to the Vahan portal’s vehicle registration data, there were 305 vehicles registered in 2022. Last month, it was 63 units.
Gopalakrishnan stated that some vehicle registration offices in India are not linked to the Vahan portal. He said, “We have delivered approximately 530 units to dealers. Around 83 are still with dealers, and the rest have been sold by them to buyers. Gopalakrishnan stated that BYD India will soon launch its new model Atto3.
He stated that sales of the new model would begin in January 2023. Gopalakrishnan declined further comment on the company’s launch plan.
He said, “On the distribution side, we will have about 23 showrooms before the end of the year and 50 next year,” Currently, there are seven showrooms across the country.
BYD Auto reported recently better-than-expected results in the first half year. The company registered $21.7 billion, which was almost 66% more than in the same period last.
India’s BYD has two plants, one for automobile manufacturing and one for electronic products. This totals about $150 million.
