Basavaraj Bommai, the Chief Minister of Karnataka, flagged off 75 “Switch EiV 12 buses” on Sunday to meet the needs of Bengaluru residents.
The 300-strong electric bus order for Switch Mobility Ltd includes the “new technologically advanced” electric buses. They will be included in the fleet of Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation’s (BMTC) electric buses.
The company released that Switch Mobility, the next generation carbon-neutral electric bus company and that also manufactures light commercial vehicles would supply, operate, and maintain the 300 buses.
“In order to meet these needs, Switch India launched Switch EiV 12 in June 2022. Today, we are thrilled to begin the first deliveries of our Switch EiV busses to BMTC as part of our 300-strong order of electric buses,” stated Mahesh Babu Chief Executive Officer, Switch India, and Chief Operating Officer at Switch Mobility Ltd.
He stated that the buses would play an important role in reducing the city’s carbon footprint. This is equivalent to planting 87,000 trees or reducing over 14,500 tonnes of CO2 annually.
According to the company, the buses will be equipped with the latest-generation modular batteries that are highly efficient and have advanced lithium-ion NMC Chemistry. This chemistry was specifically developed for India’s market and climatic conditions.
Modular batteries allow for greater range and greater capacity per battery cell.
