The U.S. Department of Energy approved New York’s federal home energy rebates application, marking a crucial step in nationwide energy efficiency. Ceres celebrates this milestone, advocating for cleaner, more efficient homes through federal incentives.

With programs established in 2022, states like New York lead the charge in upgrading to greener technologies. Ceres collaborates with industry stakeholders and state energy offices in California, Massachusetts, and Wisconsin to shape program design. Recently, they convened meetings and roundtable discussions to optimize rebate implementation and share insights with key officials.

In 2022, the U.S. Congress and Biden administration introduced two home energy rebate programs. These federally funded initiatives aim to enhance energy efficiency in households by encouraging upgrades to cleaner, more efficient appliances and systems. States are responsible for submitting their program applications to the Department of Energy (DOE) for approval. New York leads as the first state to receive approval, with 11 others currently under review. Ceres, in collaboration with industry stakeholders, offers valuable feedback to state energy offices on program design, with a focus on California, Massachusetts, and Wisconsin. In March, Ceres facilitated a meeting between key industry players and DOE’s Office of State and Community Energy Programs, exploring strategies to optimize rebate implementation. Additionally, they organized a roundtable discussion in Madison, WI, to delve into the newly established federal home energy rebate programs. This event provided manufacturers and service providers with an opportunity to share expertise with influential figures like U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm and Gov. Tony Evers, fostering collaboration for a cleaner energy future.

“The U.S. is poised for a summer of rebates that will deliver cost savings and increased comfort to families across the country,” said Anne Kelly, vice president, government relations, Ceres. “Home energy rebate programs are essential to reduce energy use, lower costs, and bring new jobs to communities across the country. Business engagement is critical to ensure the success of these programs. Manufacturers, service providers, and retailers are eager to get cleaner, more efficient appliances and systems to consumers and are actively ramping up supply chains to meet the increased demand the rebates will create.”

“Public-private partnership is key in designing and implementing these programs as effectively as possible to meet our nation’s climate, economic, and equity goals. We look forward to supporting additional states as they work with DOE to get programs off the ground and keep money in the pockets of consumers,” Kelly added.
