TUAL, a developer of charging solutions for commercial electric vehicles, has partnered with UK advanced manufacturer Tharsus to scale production of its PowerUp Charger, a battery-buffered DC fast-charging system designed for grid-constrained environments.

The partnership is intended to support the transition of the PowerUp Charger from proof-of-concept and field trials to high-volume manufacturing and large-scale deployment. Tharsus will work with TUAL’s design and engineering teams to optimise the manufacturing process and support production scaling.

The PowerUp Charger combines battery buffering, power electronics, and predictive software to provide high-performance DC fast charging where conventional grid capacity may be limited. The system is designed for commercial EV fleets requiring rapid charging without relying on major grid upgrades.

The announcement follows TUAL securing Made in Britain status for the company and its PowerUp Charger. The designation reflects the company’s focus on UK manufacturing and its plans to develop an export-ready production model for its charging technology.

Based in Blyth, Northumberland, Tharsus specialises in scaling complex electro-mechanical products from prototype to production. Its experience includes lithium-ion battery systems, intelligent control systems, power electronics, autonomous mobility platforms, industrial power modules, and connected robotics.

TUAL said Tharsus’ manufacturing expertise and supply-chain capabilities will support the company as it moves toward larger-scale production and expands its customer base across Europe.

Phil Clarke, Founder and CEO of TUAL, said the company required a manufacturing partner with strong technical capabilities and operational expertise to meet its uptime and performance targets. He added that Tharsus’ experience in moving products from pilot production to scalable manufacturing made it a suitable partner for the PowerUp Charger.

Brian Palmer, Founder of Tharsus, said the company was pleased to partner with TUAL to bring its EV charging technology to European markets and support the company’s Made in Britain ambitions.

The partnership comes as commercial fleet electrification increases demand for charging infrastructure capable of operating in locations where grid capacity is constrained. TUAL said the collaboration will support the development of UK-manufactured charging technology while enabling the PowerUp Charger to move toward wider commercial deployment.

Through the partnership with Tharsus and its Made in Britain status, TUAL aims to establish the PowerUp Charger as a solution for grid-constrained commercial fleet charging while demonstrating the capabilities of the UK’s advanced manufacturing sector.
