SWITCH Mobility Ltd, part of the Hinduja Group, has unveiled its new SWITCH EiV9 electric bus at Prawaas 5.0, India’s multimodal transport exhibition, as it expands its portfolio of electric buses for urban and institutional mobility. The company also showcased the enhanced SWITCH EiV12 Intercity electric bus, reinforcing its focus on advancing electric mobility solutions for both city and long-distance transportation.
The newly launched SWITCH EiV9 has been developed for city transit, employee transportation, and school mobility, with an emphasis on operational efficiency, passenger comfort, and lower total cost of ownership. The company said the vehicle is designed to help fleet operators accelerate the transition to electric mobility while improving business economics and reducing environmental impact.
According to SWITCH Mobility, the EiV9 combines a lightweight architecture with advanced electric driveline technology to improve energy efficiency and lower operating costs. The bus is available with multiple battery pack configurations to suit different route and operational requirements. It also features regenerative braking and dual-gun CCS2 fast charging to maximize vehicle uptime and operational flexibility.
The electric bus is powered by a Permanent Magnet Variable Reluctance (PMVR) motor capable of delivering up to 213 kW of peak power, enabling improved acceleration and performance across diverse operating conditions.
The company has also incorporated several passenger comfort features, including a spacious cabin, front and rear air suspension, ergonomic seating, and individual USB charging ports. For employee transportation, the EiV9 can also be configured with pushback seats to enhance comfort during longer commutes.
Safety features include a Fire Detection and Suppression System (FDSS), disc brakes on both axles, and an electric architecture designed to support reliable operations in varying operating environments.
Commenting on the launch, Ganesh Mani, CEO of SWITCH Mobility, said the EiV9 represents an important milestone in the company’s growth strategy as it strengthens its presence across public and institutional mobility segments. He noted that the 9-metre electric bus market is expected to witness strong growth in the coming years, driven by increasing demand for sustainable public transportation.
Alongside the vehicle launch, SWITCH Mobility introduced its new #SwitchKaro campaign aimed at encouraging businesses, fleet operators, and transport providers to accelerate the adoption of electric mobility. The campaign highlights the operational, economic, and environmental benefits of transitioning from conventional vehicles to electric alternatives.
In addition to the EiV9, the company showcased the upgraded SWITCH EiV12 Intercity electric bus, designed for long-distance passenger transport. The enhanced model features premium reclining seats, dedicated charging points for passengers, floor-mounted lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries for improved stability, front and rear air suspension, and dual-gun DC fast charging.
The EiV12 Intercity also integrates advanced safety and connectivity features, including a pneumatic suspension driver’s seat, digital camera-based outside rear-view mirrors (ORVMs), a Fire Detection and Suppression System, and SWITCH iON, the company’s connected vehicle platform that enables real-time diagnostics, remote monitoring, and digital battery management to improve fleet performance and operational efficiency.
