Audi has strengthened its long-standing partnership with SAIC Motor by signing a strategic cooperation agreement aimed at accelerating the development of next-generation intelligent electric vehicles in China.
As part of the agreement, the two companies will establish a dedicated AUDI Innovation & Technology Center in Shanghai, led by Audi AG. The new facility will focus on developing China-specific intelligent electrification technologies and connected vehicle solutions, reinforcing Audi’s ambition to become a leading premium intelligent connected vehicle (ICV) brand in the country.
The collaboration will also see the joint development of four all-new AUDI models based on the next-generation Advanced Digitized Platform (ADP). These models are expected to expand Audi’s electric portfolio in China, catering to evolving consumer demand for smart, connected mobility solutions.
Gernot Döllner, CEO of Audi AG, said the partnership marks a crucial step in the brand’s China strategy. “Following the successful launch of AUDI and its first model, we are now establishing a dedicated Innovation and Technology Center with SAIC to drive our ‘Vorsprung in China’ vision,” he noted.
Echoing this sentiment, Jia Jianxu highlighted the strength of the collaboration, stating that both companies aim to “jointly pursue innovation and leadership” in the premium electric vehicle segment.
The announcement builds on the momentum of Audi’s new China-focused brand, which debuted with the AUDI E5 Sportback in 2025. The upcoming AUDI E7X, the brand’s first SUV, is set to make its debut at Auto China 2026, further strengthening Audi’s EV presence in the region.
According to Fermín Soneira, the expanded agreement represents a “historic milestone,” paving the way for a new generation of intelligent, connected vehicles tailored specifically for Chinese consumers.
The Shanghai-based innovation center will play a critical role in advancing technologies such as AI-powered smart cabins and advanced driver assistance systems, aligning with China’s rapidly evolving mobility landscape and growing demand for premium electric vehicles.
