ACCIONA has been awarded a contract by the Madrid regional government to construct and operate the city’s largest 100% renewable public electric vehicle (EV) charging hub within the M-30 ring road. The facility, expected to be completed by 2027, will have a total installed capacity of 4,000 kW.

The hub, located at 276 Paseo de la Castellana opposite Madrid’s Four Towers business district and within the future Madrid Nuevo Norte development area, will feature 20 ultra-fast charging points – 19 for regular cars and one for heavy-duty vehicles – along with a battery-swapping station for Silence electric vehicles. The 1,281-square-meter site will be transformed from a disused petrol station into a next-generation electric mobility infrastructure, designed as both a charging point and an open urban space aligned with the city’s decarbonization and quality-of-life goals.

Operated by ACCIONA for 30 years, the facility will use 100% certified renewable energy, with integrated solar panels for self-consumption. The system is expected to generate a net annual surplus of over 35,000 kWh. A photocatalytic façade will actively remove pollutants and purify the air, while a real-time renewable energy traceability system ensures transparency in energy usage.

Designed as a “mobility hub,” the project integrates charging points with a user services area under a single canopy. The building will include a vending area, accessible restrooms, and a multipurpose space for events and outreach related to electric mobility.

The project incorporates sustainable, low-impact materials such as wood, photocatalytic ceramic, and locally sourced natural stone, reflecting a strong focus on environmental and architectural innovation.

With this initiative, ACCIONA strengthens its role in urban transport electrification and sustainable infrastructure development, complementing its network of more than 5,000 charging points across Spain and Portugal.
