Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has directed that all new fuel stations on its land parcels must include electric vehicle (EV) charging points, marking a key step in the state’s transition toward sustainable transport.
The directive, issued under the supervision of Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik, aims to integrate EV infrastructure with conventional fuel outlets, ensuring that future travel increasingly relies on clean energy. Officials said the move aligns with Maharashtra’s long-term plan to support electric mobility and promote eco-friendly transport solutions.
Under this initiative, private fuel companies setting up stations on MSRTC land will be required to provide EV charging alongside diesel and CNG facilities. The policy is expected to support the gradual adoption of electric buses in MSRTC’s fleet while creating a broader EV ecosystem for public commuters.
“Future travel will be based on electric energy, and the ST Corporation is committed to building the required infrastructure from today itself,” said Minister Sarnaik, emphasizing the importance of sustainable and reliable charging infrastructure across the state.
This decision is part of MSRTC’s broader strategy to encourage private participation in EV infrastructure and strengthen Maharashtra’s position in India’s clean mobility transition.
