The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has released revised guidance for the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Program, a key federal initiative to expand EV charging networks across the country.

The Electrification Coalition (EC), a leading nonprofit advocating for EV adoption, welcomed the move, saying it will streamline processes, remove barriers, and give states greater flexibility to advance charging projects.

In a statement, Ben Prochazka, Executive Director of the EC, emphasized the significance of the update: The NEVI program is critical to building a reliable, accessible EV charging network to power the future of transportation in all 50 states. While progress takes time, we are encouraged by the Department’s commitment to enabling states to advance EV infrastructure projects more efficiently.

The revised guidance is expected to unlock delayed projects and accelerate the nation’s transition to clean transportation. Prochazka noted that the EC will continue working with state transportation departments and stakeholders to ensure a robust EV charging ecosystem that strengthens economic growth, public health, and national security.
