Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD is set to make a major debut in Croatia’s automotive market with the launch of its first showroom on Savska Street in Zagreb by the end of this month. The expansion will also include the opening of an authorized BYD service center, signaling the brand’s long-term commitment to Croatian customers.
The announcement, reported by Poslovni Dnevnik, marks BYD’s formal entry into Croatia as the company accelerates its European expansion strategy. In addition to Zagreb, two more showrooms are planned for Split and Dubrovnik, bringing BYD’s range of cutting-edge electric vehicles closer to drivers across the country.
Affordable Electric Mobility
Speaking at the annual briefing of China’s foreign policy goals to Croatian media, Qi Qianjin, the Chinese Ambassador to Croatia, revealed that BYD’s EVs will be priced at approximately €30,000, making them an attractive option for Croatian consumers seeking affordable, sustainable transportation.
The ambassador hailed the launch as a new milestone in the strengthening economic and diplomatic ties between China and Croatia, referencing the Pelješac Bridge as a symbol of successful bilateral cooperation.
Growing Trade and Tourism
Trade between the two nations hit $2.96 billion in 2024, with Croatian exports to China soaring by 92.7%. Ambassador Qi emphasized China’s interest in importing more Croatian products such as tuna and honey, while encouraging Croatian companies to engage in Chinese trade fairs.
Tourism has also flourished, with 249,000 Chinese visitors recorded in Croatia, a figure expected to rise further with China’s unilateral visa-free policy for Croatian citizens.
“BYD’s arrival is not just about cars — it represents another bridge between our two nations,” said Ambassador Qi. “It is about economic cooperation, sustainability, and building stronger people-to-people ties.”
With the opening of BYD’s Croatian showrooms, the country joins a growing list of European markets embracing next-generation electric mobility, powered by one of the world’s leading EV manufacturers.
