Audi is ushering in a new era for its A5 series by introducing plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) models for the first time. Built on the Premium Platform Combustion (PPC), the latest A5 lineup blends striking design, cutting-edge hybrid technology, and enhanced comfort to offer a superior driving experience.

The Audi A5 Avant e-hybrid quattro and Audi A5 Sedan e-hybrid quattro come in two power levels: 220 kW and 270 kW, providing a seamless blend of performance and efficiency. These models are powered by a 2.0 TFSI engine (185 kW / 252 PS) combined with an electric motor (up to 105 kW), enabling impressive acceleration times—5.1 seconds for the 270 kW variant and 5.9 seconds for the 220 kW version.

Gernot Döllner, CEO of Audi, emphasized the brand’s commitment to electrification:
“As part of our model initiative, we are significantly expanding our range of plug-in hybrids in 2025. Our new generation of PHEVs offers a dynamic yet comfortable driving experience while maintaining an ideal balance between power and efficiency.”

Extended Electric Range & Faster Charging

A key highlight of the new A5 e-hybrid models is the upgraded high-voltage battery, boasting a 45% higher capacity at 25.9 kWh (net 20.7 kWh). This improvement enables an electric range of up to 110 kilometers, allowing drivers to cover most daily commutes on electric power alone.

The charging performance has also been enhanced, with 11 kW AC charging capability, reducing charging time to just 2.5 hours from 0 to 100 percent. In addition, Audi has improved regenerative braking, allowing drivers to control recuperation levels via steering wheel paddles for optimized energy recovery.

Geoffrey Bouquot, Audi’s Board Member for Technical Development, highlighted the benefits of this innovation:
“Our hybrid technology combines the best of both worlds—offering flexibility and efficiency for everyday driving. The increased electric range allows customers to maximize electric driving, making sustainability more practical than ever.”

Intelligent Hybrid Management & Customizable Driving Modes

The A5 e-hybrid quattro models come with two driving modes:

  • EV Mode – Runs exclusively on electric power.
  • Hybrid Mode – Automatically adjusts power usage based on driving needs and route-based energy optimization.

Pricing & Availability

The A5 Sedan e-hybrid quattro (base model) starts at €62,500, while the A5 Avant e-hybrid quattro is priced at €64,150. The higher-performance versions are available from €70,900 (Sedan) and €72,550 (Avant).

With enhanced electrification, improved efficiency, and a bold design language, Audi’s latest A5 e-hybrid quattro lineup marks a major milestone in the evolution of mid-size hybrid vehicles. The “e-hybrid” designation will now serve as a visual marker of Audi’s continued commitment to sustainable mobility while delivering the performance the brand is known for.
