Audi is expanding its A5 lineup with the introduction of two new plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) models, alongside the traditional combustion engine variants. The A5 series now offers more flexibility, efficiency, and comfort with these new hybrid options, available in two power levels. The latest generation of high-voltage batteries offers a 45% higher capacity, contributing to an electric range of up to 110 kilometers, and improved regenerative braking performance.

With a bold new design and advanced combustion engine technology, the A5 family enters the next phase of Audi’s success in the mid-size car segment. The new plug-in hybrid models also introduce the “e-hybrid” technology designation, highlighting their electric capabilities. Available as the A5 Avant e-hybrid quattro and A5 Sedan e-hybrid quattro, these models come in two power levels: 220 kW and 270 kW. Both variants feature a 2.0 TFSI engine paired with an electric motor, offering up to 105 kW of power.

The 270 kW versions accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.1 seconds, while the 220 kW versions achieve the same in 5.9 seconds. All models reach a top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph).“As part of our model initiative, we are significantly expanding our range of plug-in hybrids in 2025,” says Audi CEO Gernot Döllner. “Outputting up to 270 kilowatts, our new generation of plug-in hybrid models offers a sporty and comfortable driving experience as well as a harmonious balance between performance and efficiency.” Geoffrey Bouquot, Member of the Board of Management for Technical Development at AUDI AG, adds: “The increased electric range of our new plug-in hybrids enables our customers to cover the majority of their daily journeys using only electric power. Our hybrid technology combines the best of both worlds and provides a high degree of flexibility for everyday life. And with the new technology designation ‘e-hybrid,’ this is now also recognizable at first glance.”

The new A5 PHEVs feature a 25.9 kWh (net 20.7 kWh) battery, an increase of approximately 45% in capacity, with a charging time of just 2.5 hours thanks to the upgraded 11 kW AC charging power. Audi has also enhanced regenerative braking, allowing drivers to control the level of energy recuperation via steering wheel paddles. The hybrid management system optimizes performance and efficiency, automatically selecting the best operating strategy for each drive. Drivers can choose between “EV” mode for pure electric driving or “hybrid” mode, which maintains a specific charge level for future use.

The A5 PHEV models come with a high level of standard equipment, with the higher-power versions featuring the sporty S line exterior package, black styling, and privacy glazing for a dynamic look. The A5 Sedan e-hybrid quattro starts at €62,500 in Germany, while the A5 Avant e-hybrid quattro begins at €64,150. The higher-performance versions start at €70,900 for the Sedan and €72,550 for the Avant. The new e-hybrid models, built in Neckarsulm, can be ordered from March 27, 2025, with an initial launch in April 2025.
