Stellantis N.V. has unveiled the STLA Frame platform, a groundbreaking BEV-native, multi-energy architecture designed for full-size body-on-frame pickup trucks and SUVs. This platform targets key markets in North America and beyond, addressing the growing demand for powerful, durable vehicles with advanced capabilities.
The STLA Frame platform sets new benchmarks in its class, offering up to 690 miles (1,100 km) of range with the range-extended electric vehicle (REEV) system and 500 miles (800 km) in full battery-electric vehicle (BEV) mode. It boasts a towing capacity of up to 14,000 pounds (6,350 kg) and a payload rating of 2,700 pounds (1,224 kg), along with water fording capability up to 24 inches (610 mm). These features ensure the platform is ready for demanding environments and versatile applications.
Initially intended to underpin Stellantis’ lineup of full-size pickup trucks, SUVs, and light commercial vehicles, the STLA Frame platform supports a variety of propulsion options, including a fully electric BEV system and a REEV configuration. The architecture also offers future adaptability for internal combustion, hybrid, and hydrogen powertrains.
The innovative REEV system integrates a battery, front and rear electric drive modules (EDMs), an onboard generator, and an internal combustion engine. Unlike traditional systems, the generator powers the EDMs and recharges the battery without a direct mechanical connection to the wheels. This setup ensures extended range under heavy loads while delivering the high torque and dynamic performance expected from electric powertrains.
The STLA Frame platform exemplifies Stellantis’ commitment to combining cutting-edge technology with rugged performance, meeting the evolving needs of full-size truck and SUV owners worldwide.“Like STLA Medium and STLA Large, STLA Frame combines an unprecedented range with new levels of capability and performance to offer best-in-class range, payload and towing for our customers who need reliable and powerful trucks and SUVs, to haul their families or power their businesses,” said Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares. “With full EV and extended-range EV tech coming soon, we’re bringing ‘no compromise’ solutions to buyers who may be hesitant on trying their first electric vehicle. We’re proud of this engineering marvel and look forward to seeing it come to life in our upcoming product blitz on Jeep and Ram.”
