The Tamil Nadu government is engaged in discussions with the state electricity board to facilitate the establishment of charging infrastructure along major roads and highways, aiming to boost the electric vehicle (EV) sector, according to Industries Minister T R B Rajaa.

He emphasized the government’s encouragement for EV manufacturers to invest in charging stations, aligning with the state’s push for the electric vehicle industry through the recently released EV policy.

With a significant percentage of two-wheelers and four-wheelers manufactured in Tamil Nadu, the government envisions building a robust EV ecosystem, including infrastructure and charging stations.

Rajaa hinted at potential announcements during the Global Investors Meet in January 2024 and highlighted the state’s commitment to making Tamil Nadu a prominent hub for electric vehicle manufacturing.

The EV policy aims to attract substantial investments and create job opportunities, positioning Tamil Nadu as a leader in electric vehicle production.

Additionally, the government has announced a 100% road tax exemption for battery-operated vehicles until December 31, 2025, further incentivizing the adoption of electric vehicles.
