In a significant development for the electric vehicle (EV) industry, the month of June 2023 saw a remarkable surge in EV sales in Delhi. According to the latest data, a total of 4,893 EVs were registered during the month, marking a substantial increase compared to previous months.
EV sales accounted for a staggering 10.2% of all vehicles sold in Delhi. Among the registered EVs, 159 electric buses made up a significant portion, representing 80% of the total electric bus sales in India for the month of June.
However, the sales of e-2Ws experienced a decline in June, with only 1,794 units sold. This decrease of 64% compared to May can be attributed to a reduction in the FAME subsidy specifically in the 2-wheeler segment.
On the other hand, e-4Ws showed promising results, with 932 units sold during the month. This accounts for nearly 20% of the total registered EVs, indicating a growing preference for electric four-wheelers among consumers. Under the Delhi EV policy, a remarkable 1,29,760 EVs have been sold in Delhi up until June 2023.
The surge in EV sales in Delhi showcases the increasing popularity and acceptance of electric vehicles as a viable and eco-friendly mode of transportation. It also emphasizes the need for continued efforts to improve charging infrastructure, offer incentives, and promote the use of EVs across different vehicle segments.
