BMW is gearing up to launch new model variants and innovations in the areas of electrification and digitalization, aiming to enhance the appeal and diversity of their product range starting in the summer of 2023. The luxury segment will witness the introduction of a third variant of the all-electric BMW i7, expanding the brand’s offerings in the electric vehicle market. Simultaneously, BMW is introducing the Multi-Contract Plug & Charge and MAX RANGE functions for all BMW i7 and BMW iX models, making electric mobility even more convenient.
The BMW i7 eDrive50, set to debut in July 2023, will provide customers with another option to enjoy supreme long-distance comfort coupled with cutting-edge innovations and emission-free driving pleasure. This new variant boasts the latest BMW eDrive technology, featuring an integrated electric drive unit delivering an impressive output of 335 kW/455 hp and a peak torque of 650 Nm (479 lb-ft). The BMW i7 eDrive50 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 5.5 seconds and achieves a WLTP-calculated range of 575 – 611 kilometers (357 – 380 miles) thanks to its highly efficient electric motor and high-voltage battery.
BMW is also introducing new functions to make electric mobility more convenient. The Multi-Contract Plug & Charge function, part of the BMW Charging portfolio, allows for automatic vehicle authentication at public charging points, eliminating the need for charging cards or apps. The BMW Group is the first automaker to incorporate multi-contract functionality into this feature, enabling customers to easily use charging points from multiple operators. Additionally, the MAX RANGE function enhances flexibility by increasing the range of BMW i7 and BMW iX models by up to 25% in situations where drivers are unable to recharge as originally planned.
In the digitalization realm, BMW is upgrading the iDrive system with QuickSelect and introducing BMW Operating System 8.5 for numerous current models. The revamped iDrive features a redesigned home screen, QuickSelect functionality, and an improved menu structure inspired by consumer electronics devices. Furthermore, BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant gains enhanced capabilities, providing suggestions and executing various functions based on the driving situation. The iDrive system can be seamlessly operated using the touchscreen and natural language, further enhancing the driving experience.
BMW is expanding its range of optional equipment and customization options for customers. A second six-cylinder in-line diesel engine, equipped with 48V mild hybrid technology, will be available for the BMW X5 and BMW X6 models from August 2023. This powerful engine delivers an output of 259 kW/352 hp and a peak torque of 720 Nm (531 lb-ft), resulting in impressive acceleration and performance. Additionally, the M Sport package Pro will be introduced as an optional extra for the BMW X1 and BMW iX1, emphasizing the dynamic character of these vehicles.
Interior upgrades include new upholstery variants and colors. Customers can opt for seat surfaces in Veganza perforated trim, offering a premium and leather-like feel. Various new exterior colors are also introduced, providing customers with more choices for personalization.
