In Conversation With Mr. Yogesh Dabhade CEO, Hoch-Rein India
LET’S BEGIN WITH A GLIMPSE OF YOUR COMPANY’S PRESENCE AND OFFERINGS IN EV SECTOR?
chargeIT mobility is into manufacturing of intelligent charging infrastructure (AC and DC Stations with Charging Controller and IT-Backend) for E-Mobility since 2010. chargeIT customers in Germany are able to charge their cars comfortably at chargeIT mobility charging stations. In addition chargeIT mobility offers innovative, wide range of charging services to municipal utilities, industrial companies and fleet and parking operators e.g. in Germany through their innovative charging management systems. Currently we are offering following products and services.
- chargeIT All-in-one Charging Solution from Charging Infrastructure + IT-Backend + eService for operation, connection and accounting.
- chargeIT Charging Infrastructure: AC and DC charging stations for E-cars, E-bus and E-bikes.
- chargeIT IT-Backend: Charging Management Portal with an option of eService for operation, connection and accounting.
- chargeIT Upgrade: Charging Controller for third- party charging stations, optional with IT-Backend and eService for operation, connection and accounting.
TELL US A BIT ABOUT THE RECENT TECHNOLOGY ADVANCEMENTS WHICH HOCH REIN HAS ADOPTED?
Hoch rein is the holding company of chargeIT mobility GmbH. chargeIT is into continuous development of efficient charging management systems through which our clients can manage the various demands of the electric vehicles entering into the charging infrastructure. It has successfully integrated renewable power like Solar PV into the charging infrastructure system, through efficient load management both at grid side and at the charging station side. Recently chargeIT mobility was awarded Germany’s largest load management project in Regensburg.
WHAT IS THE GLOBAL FORECAST FOR THE EV CHARGING INDUSTRY BY 2030?
According to recent GTM research forecasts that 11 percent of new vehicle sales in 2030 will consist of electric models. Growth in electric vehicle (EV) sales worldwide is expected to boost demand for charging points, with up to 40 million installed by 2030, However, the rollout of charging infrastructure will vary widely according to geography.
The report estimates that 12 million residential charging points and 1.2 million public charging points will be installed in North America by 2030.
Europe is expected to face growth trends similar to the U.S., with an estimated 9 million residential and 1.6 million public charging points set to be in operation by 2030.
China has galloped into EV charging infrastructure in the past few years. Japan has also taken giant steps in the EV charging infrastructure space. India is definitely a country to be watched in Asia purely because of its growing demand in Auto sector. One needs to see how India develops its localized EV charging growth based on the local demand for EV cars/buses/bikes and rickshaws.
HOW ARE YOU CATERING TO THE EMERGING DEMAND OF ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING?
Seeing the exponential demand in the E-Mobility and EV charging particularly in Europe, chargeIT has developed suppliers in India who are able to manufacture AC charging boxes at an optimised cost but in higher volumes. Similarly for high speed DC charging stations, chargeIT has partnered with a global player for such supplies. The patented Charging Controller from chargeIT and it’s continuously developed/improved IT-Backend from Germany can be integrated with the AC and DC charging stations.
HOW GOVERNMENT HAS SUPPORTED THE GROWTH OF THIS SECTOR?
As far as EV industry in India is concerned, we are currently in the learning curve process. The Central Government has already initiated by floating tenders for converting petrol and diesel vehicles owned by Government employees into E-vehicles. Besides the Government is in the process of launching its EV policy wherein the standards for the EV cars and chargers would be specified which would be in sync with the global standards. It has already reduced GST on the Litium ion batteries, that are currently being imported by Indian car manufacturers and its suppliers. This will give a boost to the growth of E-Mobility in India.
HOW FEASIBLE DO YOU THINK IS THE GOVERNMENT’S PLANS OF MOVING TO ALL ELECTRIC VEHICLES BY 2030?
At the moment, the vision of the Government seems to be ambitious. But only in the next 4-5 years we would be able to tell if this vision could become a reality or not. Look at the Solar sector, the current Government set an ambitious target of 100 GW from 20 GW in 2014 by 2022. Now this vision seems to be possible the way solar capacities are being installed in the country. But for EV industry to flourish, the Government will have to develop a complete ecosystem wherein all the stakeholders right from the policy makers to the EV car manufacturers, its suppliers to the state and private electric utilities and finally the charging infrastructure developers, all work in a cohesive and united way to achieve this milestone. We need to follow the way China has gone, that has given it a massive lead in the E-Mobility space in the last few years

WHAT ARE YOUR GROWTH PLANS FOR THE INDIAN MARKET? WHAT ARE THE MILESTONES YOU WISH TO ACHIEVE BY THE END OF THIS FISCAL.
Currently our focus is to find a reliable partner for manufacturing of Charging Systems in India both for our local and global requirement under the Make In India programme. At the same time we are in discussion with a leading developer to supply and support them in installing charging stations in southern states of India by this fiscal. This will allow us to create a reference base in the Indian market plus we would also gain knowledge and experience of the Indian EV charging infrastructure.
WHAT DIFFERENTIATES CHARGEIT MOBILITY FROM THE OTHER CHARGING INFRASTRUCTURE PROVIDERS IN INDIA?
chargeIT mobility comes to India with a successful decade long experience in a cutting edge market like Germany. While the Indian charging infrastructure standards are being developed, chargeIT can demonstrate and deliver an upgraded infrastructure standard. Our service offerings are designed to be compatible with and benefit companies/products that are uniquely built to serve the Indian EV market. Our differentiators in patented technologies in charging and load management will help our developer partners to leapfrog the competition and deliver superior value to the Indian market.
