JSW Greentech Limited, the commercial electric vehicle business of the JSW Group, has launched AMPSTAR, a new brand under which it will design, manufacture and sell electric buses and trucks in India.
The launch marks JSW Group’s entry into the electric commercial mobility segment. AMPSTAR will operate under the endorsement “AMPSTAR: powered by JSW” and will offer an integrated commercial mobility solution covering vehicles, charging infrastructure, financing, operations and after-sales services.
Customers will be able to choose power configurations ranging from 150 kW to 500 kW. The company will also offer multiple ownership and operating models, including outright purchase, leasing and Battery as a Service (BaaS).
15,000-Unit Annual Manufacturing Capacity
AMPSTAR vehicles will be manufactured at JSW Greentech’s 90-acre integrated EV manufacturing facility at AURIC, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra. The facility has an annual production capacity of 15,000 electric buses and trucks.
The manufacturing facility will feature India’s first pre-treatment and electro-deposition (PT-ED) process for bus manufacturing, along with an automated truck-cabin production line and an integrated battery ecosystem.
JSW Greentech said its electric commercial vehicles have been engineered in-house for Indian operating conditions. The company has developed the base logic, software and algorithms for the electric drivetrain, allowing vehicles to be configured according to customer requirements.
The vehicles will feature a dual-cooling battery system and a high-strength monocoque chassis designed for Indian road and climatic conditions.
AMPSTAR to Offer Buses and Heavy-Duty Trucks
On the bus side, AMPSTAR’s portfolio will range from 7-metre to 18-metre electric buses, targeting applications including staff transportation, city mobility, intercity transportation and school mobility.
For the truck segment, the company will initially offer a 55-tonne electric tractor-trailer. JSW Greentech plans to expand the portfolio to include electric tippers and fixed-body dumpers in the coming months.
Sumit Mittal, CEO of JSW Greentech Limited, said the company is developing its vehicles in India with an in-house electric drivetrain and software architecture, with the range designed to address different commercial mobility applications.
The company said AMPSTAR is intended to address adoption barriers beyond the vehicle itself by combining electric vehicles with charging infrastructure, financing, operating solutions and after-sales support.
JSW Group Chairman Sajjan Jindal said the company’s entry into electric commercial mobility is aimed at supporting greater domestic use of electricity for transportation while reducing dependence on imported fuels.
The launch expands JSW Group’s presence in the electric mobility sector and establishes AMPSTAR as its dedicated brand for electric commercial vehicles in India.
