JSW MG Motor India has become the first automobile manufacturer in the country to install 1,000 community electric vehicle (EV) chargers, marking a significant milestone in India’s transition toward sustainable mobility.
Announced on World Environment Day, the achievement was reached under the company’s MG Charge initiative, with charging stations deployed across more than 470 locations nationwide. The network spans residential societies, condominiums, hospitals, educational campuses, hotels, and industrial parks, helping expand access to EV charging infrastructure.
Alongside the charging milestone, the company revealed that its electric vehicles have collectively covered more than 290 crore kilometers on Indian roads. According to JSW MG Motor India, this has resulted in the avoidance of approximately 4.17 lakh metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions, highlighting the growing environmental impact of electric mobility adoption.
The automaker also outlined ambitious plans for 2026, confirming the launch of three new New Energy Vehicles (NEVs), including models featuring plug-in hybrid technology. The move reflects the company’s strategy of supporting India’s sustainability goals through multiple clean mobility solutions rather than relying on a single technology pathway.
JSW MG Motor India emphasized its commitment to sustainable manufacturing practices at its Halol facility in Gujarat. The plant currently meets nearly 95% of its power requirements through renewable energy sources and utilizes over 78% renewable energy overall, reducing carbon emissions by more than 9,300 metric tons.
The company has also achieved a 23% reduction in water consumption through process optimization and extensive reuse of recycled water. Additional environmental initiatives include a Zero External Discharge system that recycles all treated water, cleaner fuel usage across operations, extensive tree plantation programs, biogas generation from organic waste, and a certified Zero Waste to Landfill-Gold Maturity status.
Industry 4.0 technologies, including digitalization and Internet of Things (IoT) solutions, have further helped improve energy efficiency and support decarbonization efforts across manufacturing operations.
Formed in 2023 as a joint venture between SAIC Motor and the JSW Group, JSW MG Motor India has rapidly expanded its presence in the country’s passenger vehicle market. The company offers a broad portfolio that includes the MG Hector, MG Astor, MG Gloster, MG Comet EV, MG Windsor EV, MG ZS EV, Cyberster, and M9.
With a growing charging ecosystem, expanding electric vehicle lineup, and sustainability-focused manufacturing practices, JSW MG Motor India is positioning itself as a key contributor to India’s evolving green mobility landscape.
