Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has recorded its highest-ever monthly sales performance, selling a total of 242,688 units in May 2026. The milestone was driven by strong demand across passenger vehicles, utility vehicles, and exports, further strengthening the company’s leadership position in the Indian automotive market.
Domestic sales reached a new all-time high of 193,535 units during the month, surpassing the 138,690 units sold in May 2025. Including sales to other original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), total domestic sales stood at 200,774 units.
Passenger vehicle sales remained the primary growth driver, rising to 190,337 units from 135,962 units in the corresponding month last year. The company’s utility vehicle portfolio, comprising models such as the Brezza, Ertiga, e Vitara, Fronx, Grand Vitara, Invicto, Jimny, and XL6, recorded sales of 79,267 units, up significantly from 54,899 units in May 2025.
The compact and mid-size car segment also posted strong growth, with sales increasing to 81,555 units from 61,960 units a year earlier. Popular models in this category include the Baleno, Swift, Dzire, WagonR, Celerio, Ignis, and Ciaz. Meanwhile, sales of mini cars, including the Alto and S-Presso, surged to 16,275 units compared with 6,776 units in May 2025.
The van segment, led by the Eeco, contributed 13,240 units, while the Super Carry light commercial vehicle recorded sales of 3,198 units during the month.
Maruti Suzuki’s export business also delivered robust growth, with overseas shipments rising to 41,914 units from 31,219 units in May 2025. Exports accounted for a significant share of the company’s overall sales performance and highlighted the growing global demand for Maruti Suzuki vehicles.
Sales to other OEMs stood at 7,239 units, lower than the 10,168 units recorded in the same period last year. Despite the decline, the company’s overall domestic and export growth more than compensated, resulting in a record monthly sales figure.
For the first two months of FY2026-27 (April–May), Maruti Suzuki reported cumulative sales of 482,334 units, compared with 359,868 units during the same period of the previous financial year, reflecting strong momentum at the start of the fiscal year.
The record-breaking performance underscores sustained consumer demand across segments, particularly utility vehicles and compact cars, while highlighting Maruti Suzuki’s continued ability to expand its presence both in domestic and international markets.
