L&T Electronic Products & Systems (LTEPS), a business unit of Larsen & Toubro, has entered into a strategic partnership with global electric propulsion technology company EVR Motors to jointly develop and manufacture next-generation EV traction motors for the Indian market.
The collaboration combines LTEPS’ engineering, systems integration, and manufacturing capabilities with EVR Motors’ advanced traction motor technology. The partnership is aligned with the Government of India’s ‘Make in India’ and ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ initiatives aimed at strengthening indigenous manufacturing and reducing dependence on imports.
Under the agreement, LTEPS and EVR Motors will work together to industrialise advanced traction motor solutions designed specifically for Indian operating conditions. The motors are expected to offer high efficiency, compact packaging, and lower reliance on rare-earth materials.
The partnership will cater to multiple electric vehicle segments, including two-wheelers, three-wheelers, passenger vehicles, and commercial vehicles. The companies aim to support original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in meeting evolving performance, localisation, and cost requirements in India’s rapidly growing EV sector.
The traction motors are proposed to be manufactured at LTEPS’ advanced manufacturing facility in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. Alongside indigenously designed Motor Control Units (MCUs), the motors will provide customers with a complete EV drivetrain solution.
Speaking on the collaboration, Prashant Jain, Head of L&T Electronic Products & Systems, said the partnership reflects the company’s commitment to building indigenous and high-performance clean mobility solutions.
“By combining advanced motor innovation with indigenous motor control units, we bridge the gap between cutting-edge technology and real-world deployment across India’s EV landscape,” Jain said.
Opher Doron, CEO of EVR Motors, stated that the partnership would help scale innovation responsibly while delivering technologically advanced and reliable traction motor solutions tailored to Indian mobility needs.
Sajal Kishore, Managing Director of EVR India, highlighted the importance of localisation and integrated powertrain solutions in accelerating India’s electric mobility transformation.
LTEPS is engaged in the design, development, and manufacturing of advanced electronic systems for sectors including defence, aerospace, industrial, and energy applications. The company aims to strengthen India’s self-reliance in high-tech manufacturing and indigenous technology development.
EVR Motors is known for its patented electric propulsion technologies and innovative motor architecture, offering high power density, reduced material usage, and scalable EV drivetrain solutions for global automotive and industrial applications.
The collaboration comes at a time when India is rapidly accelerating its electric mobility transition, with increasing focus on local manufacturing, sustainable technologies, and advanced EV powertrain systems.
