The renowned German magazine AUTO BILD Allrad has put the question of whether all-season tires can be a safe choice for 4×4 vehicles to the test, concluding with a resounding “yes.” In a rigorous evaluation involving ten tire models from European, Asian, and American manufacturers, the magazine tested the tires on a 4×4 Cupra Formentor in the size 245/45 R 18 100 Y. After 14 different assessments, Continental’s AllSeasonContact 2 emerged as the winner, earning the top rating of “exemplary” and an overall score of 1.2.

The testers highlighted the AllSeasonContact 2’s well-rounded performance and strong driving dynamics in various weather conditions. As an all-season tire, it is designed to balance the attributes needed for both summer and winter driving. The tire received high ratings across all test categories, including “Very Good” and “Good” scores for performance on snow, wet, and dry roads. It also achieved the highest marks in the sustainability categories of rolling resistance and ride comfort.

Safety Disparities Revealed in Wet Braking Test

The testing emphasized the variability in safety standards among all-season tires. In a crucial wet braking test, the Continental AllSeasonContact 2 outperformed an Asian competitor by more than 14 meters, with the latter requiring over 65 meters to come to a complete stop from 100 km/h. The test highlighted the importance of choosing high-quality tires for all-weather driving, with the magazine concluding that “Not all candidates live up to their names.”

A Versatile Choice for a Wide Range of Vehicles

Introduced just last year, the AllSeasonContact 2 is designed to suit various passenger cars and SUVs, regardless of drive type or concept. Continental has enhanced the mileage of the AllSeasonContact 2 over its predecessor, while also reducing rolling resistance without compromising on safety. It is available for rim sizes ranging from 15 to 21 inches, making it a versatile option for year-round driving.

With this victory in AUTO BILD Allrad’s test, Continental’s AllSeasonContact 2 solidifies its position as a leading all-season tire choice, providing drivers with the assurance of safety, comfort, and sustainable performance throughout the year.
