Honda Motor Co., Ltd. announced the release of two new electric commuter models, the CUV e: and ICON e:, as part of its ambitious plan to launch 30 electric motorcycle models globally by 2030. These latest offerings, introduced at a press event in Indonesia, represent the 10th and 11th models in the lineup, signaling Honda’s commitment to expanding its electric vehicle (EV) portfolio.
Honda has positioned 2024 as the year of electric motorcycle globalization, marking the start of a new phase in the company’s strategy to achieve carbon neutrality across its products by 2050. The introduction of the CUV e: and ICON e: underscores Honda’s vision to provide diverse, user-centric options that cater to urban commuters.
CUV e:
Powered by two Honda Mobile Power Pack e: swappable batteries, the CUV e: is a 110cc-equivalent electric scooter designed for city commuting. Its sleek, minimalist design is complemented by efficient motor technology, offering extended range and improved energy efficiency. The CUV e: also features three riding modes—STANDARD, SPORT, and ECON—and includes a reverse mode for maneuvering in tight spaces. Additionally, the scooter offers connectivity through Honda RoadSync Duo®, allowing users to integrate their smartphones for navigation and calls via Bluetooth®.
ICON e:
The ICON e:, built on the foundation of the EM1 e:, comes with a fixed ternary lithium-ion battery and is classified as a Class 1 moped in Japan. The redesigned model includes practical features like under-seat storage, a USB charging socket, and a digital LCD dashboard, providing both convenience and functionality. With a cruising range of more than 50 km per charge, the ICON e: offers a quiet, clean ride, ideal for everyday use in urban environments.
Honda plans to manufacture both models in Indonesia and gradually roll them out to global markets, aiming to make electric motorcycles more accessible and versatile for users worldwide. This move aligns with Honda’s broader objective of reaching carbon neutrality in motorcycle production by the 2040s, furthering its leadership in sustainable mobility solutions.
Honda’s Chief Officer of Motorcycle Operations, Keiji Kosa, stated, “The launch of the CUV e: and ICON e: marks a significant step forward in our electrification strategy. We are not only delivering on performance but also ensuring our products meet the everyday needs of our customers as we expand globally.”
With these additions, Honda accelerates its journey toward offering a full lineup of electric motorcycles, reinforcing its position as a key player in the global electric vehicle market.
