Storedot hits commercialization milestone with 2,000 extreme fast charging (XFC) cycles

In a monumental leap forward for electric vehicle (EV) technology, StoreDot, the pioneering force behind silicon-dominant extreme fast charging (XFC) battery technology, has achieved an unprecedented milestone. StoreDot has become the first company worldwide to surpass 2,000 consecutive XFC cycles, with its cutting-edge battery cells maintaining over 80% of their original capacity. This breakthrough heralds a new era where EV drivers can fast charge their vehicles within minutes daily, free from concerns about battery health.

The remarkable feat, showcasing extraordinary energy density, saw cells achieving a minimum of 330Wh/kg and 860Wh/L at the stack level. These cells were charged consecutively from 10% to 80% in just 10 minutes, boasting a charge rate of 4.2C and a discharge rate of 1C.

Battery cycle life, a critical metric in EV technology, measures the number of charge and discharge cycles a battery can endure before its capacity drops below the industry-standard threshold of 80%. StoreDot’s achievement of battery cells enduring 2,000 cycles while retaining 80% capacity represents a monumental industry milestone, exceeding existing and forthcoming EV durability regulations. These results also accommodate other real-world aging factors, promising longevity and extended battery life, providing EV owners with immense market value.

Yaron Fein, StoreDot’s Executive Vice President of R&D, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “Surpassing 2,000 cycles with our extreme fast charging cells solidifies StoreDot’s position at the forefront of battery technology innovation for electric vehicles.”

This milestone underscores StoreDot’s relentless pursuit of commercialization, affirming the maturity, stability, and durability of its groundbreaking XFC technology. Since their announcement in March 2022, StoreDot has scaled up and validated its technology, collaborating with over 15 EV car brands and surpassing the 2,000 XFC cycles mark using EV cell capacities of 30Ah.

Looking ahead, StoreDot has ambitious plans, including demonstrating the world’s first EV pack equipped with XFC technology, shipping prismatic B-samples to OEMs, signing strategic manufacturing agreements, and expanding operations in the US, all in alignment with its path towards commercialization.

Moreover, StoreDot aims to deliver 100 miles of charge in just 5 minutes this year, with plans to achieve 100 miles charged in 4 minutes by 2026 and an impressive 3 minutes by 2028.
