NIT-Calicut And TATA Elxsi Collaborate To Drive Electric Vehicle Innovation

The National Institute of Technology-Calicut (NIT-C) and TATA Elxsi have joined forces through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to boost collaborative research and innovation in the Electric Vehicle sector.

As part of this agreement, TATA Elxsi will establish a cutting-edge laboratory at NIT-C, with significant funding of ₹1 crore allocated for the project. The contribution consists of ₹75 lakh from TATA Elxsi and the remaining from NIT-C, according to a press release. This MoU is set to strengthen NIT-C’s ties with the industry, providing students with the skills needed to drive advancements in the EV field.

The MoU was signed by Prof. Priya Chandran, Director in Charge of NIT-C and Dean (Planning and Development), as well as Manoj Raghavan, CEO and MD of TATA Elxsi.

Last year, NIT-C and Tata Elxsi entered into a similar MoU focusing on collaborative research related to e-mobility and related technologies. The intention was to facilitate the exchange of expertise between industry professionals, faculty, and students, fostering projects, internships, training, and research facility sharing to promote academic and industrial research.

Manoj Raghavan highlighted the growing momentum of the EV industry, with 10% of registered vehicles in Kerala falling under the EV category. He acknowledged industry challenges like power shortages, high EV costs, and battery charging problems. He expressed hope that NIT-C could participate in mid-term EV projects, fostering innovation.
