Autel Europe GmbH, one of the leading German automobile manufacturers, is finally planning an incursion into Assam to compete with its Chinese counterparts by establishing the northeast’s first electric vehicle (EV) station manufacturing plant at Guwahati’s Tech City.

The state government-run Assam Electronics Development Corporation Ltd. (Amtron) has recently landed a contract with the German manufacturer, where the process of building the unit has been accelerated by the preparation of two blocks at Bongora’s Tech City.

Mr. Biswajeet Dey, the manager at Amtron said that leading automobile companies have begun unveiling various models of EVs, and certified manufacturing of EV charging stations and their components have not yet begun in Assam and its neighboring states. The collaboration is nearing completion, and manufacturing will begin real soon.

Furthermore, he even added that Guwahati-based certified manufacturing companies will attempt to enter Southeast Asian markets. According to EV industry insiders, the state has only a few charging stations, with 90% of the components imported from China. However, the tech city project will help to manufacture Bureau of Indian Standards-certified components, including hardware and software, from the ground up in order to build smart charging stations that can accommodate a variety of models.
