IKEA U.S. Collaborates with Electrify America to Deploy Ultra Fast Charging Stations Over 25 IKEA Retail Locations

IKEA U.S. announced a partnership with Electrify Commercial and Electrify America to provide ultra-fast charging stations and deliver fleet electric vehicle charging to more than 25 IKEA stores across the U.S. IKEA U.S. will be able to quadruple the number of EV charging stations it has, supporting its goal of achieving zero-emission home delivery by 2025 and halving relative1 emission from coworkers and customers travel by 2030.

“IKEA believes that it is essential to work with partners in order to combat climate change and make the world a better place. The collaboration with Electrify America will bring super-fast public chargers into our stores. It will also help us make a huge leap towards our goals to become circular and more climate positive,” stated Javier Quinones CEO & Chief Sustainability Officer, IKEA U.S.

There will be over 200 ultra-fast chargers available at IKEA retail stores in 18 states, including Arizona, California, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Kansas, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Virginia and Washington. They offer the fastest charging speeds – 150kW to 350kW. The first locations will open in the latter half of 2022, and they should be complete by the end 2023.

IKEA chose Electrify Commercial to supply its EV delivery fleet. This business unit of Electrify America is designed to deliver turnkey electric vehicle charging solutions. It will provide more than 225 chargers at various locations. This is the first time Electrify Commercial and Electrify Commercial have installed both public and fleet chargers simultaneously for a project.

Giovanni Palazzo, President and CEO of Electrify America, stated that “We are thrilled to establish both commercial and public fleet charging stations with IKEA – a brand which shares our goal for a more sustainable future. With this collaboration, Electrify America and Electrify Commercial is leading the way for businesses and customers toward zero-emission transportation.

Electrify America opened its first charging station in May 2018. Since then, the network has expanded at a rapid pace. Currently, there are nearly four stations opening per week. Electrify America currently has over 800 charging stations and 3,500 individual chargers. The company plans to increase its network to 1,800 charging stations with 10,000 individual chargers each in the United States and Canada by 2026.
