On the occasion of World Environment Day, 17 Tata Nexon EVs were inducted into the Kolkata Police’s official fleet. These electric SUVs were included as part of the police’s mission to replace old diesel vehicles with more environmentally-friendly electric vehicles.

The Kolkata Police organized an event at Police Athletic Club and flagged off electric cars with blue stripes and Kolkata Police badges on the car sides. On its social media platforms, the city police shared a video showing the flag-off ceremony.

The partnership between Kolkata Police and Tata Motors was announced by the Kolkata Police in 2021 for leasing the Nexon Electric Vehicle. For the same, the West Bengal government provided Rs 8.82 Crore for the Kolkata Police. To gradually reduce the use of diesel vehicles for transport and patrolling, 226 Nexon Electric Vehicles were added to their fleet in September. These 8-year lease agreements have allowed for the leasing of these electric SUVs.

Kolkata Police also has 200 conversion kits for electric cars to turn their existing two-wheelers into electric bikes. This is a great way to find a cost-effective solution to the problem of vehicular pollution.

With 3,454 units sold in May 2022, the Tata Nexon EV is India’s most popular electric vehicle. It is also the most affordable electric SUV at Rs 15 lakh, and Tata Motors claims it has a range of 300 kilometres.

Recently, the West Bengal government announced that buyers of electric two-wheelers and four-wheelers will be exempt from having to pay registration fees, motor vehicles, and other taxes. CNG buyers will also enjoy these benefits. These concessions will be available from April 1, 2022, to March 31, 2024.
