The all-new 2022 Acura MDX earned the highest possible safety rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The MDX qualified for the SAFEST CHOICE + (TSP +) by obtaining a high score of “GOOD” in all crash resistance tests, “SUPERIOR” for the Crash Mitigation Braking System (CMBS ™) that is part of standard AcuraWatch ™ driver assistance and safety technology, and “GOOD” for your headlights as standard. The MDX is the brand’s third model to earn the Institute’s highest rating in its 2021 awards program, joining the RDX and TLX,
All sedan and SUV models feature the AcuraWatch ™ driver assistance and safety system as standard equipment, including Crash Mitigation Braking System (CMBS ™), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with reduced speed ranges and Lane Departure Mitigation System(RDL). The 2022 Acura MDX comes equipped with Acura’s Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE ™) body structure, designed to enhance passenger protection and break-away compatibility in frontal collisions with a network of connected structural elements that distribute power more evenly across the front of the vehicle and reduce the forces transferred to the passenger compartment. Thanks to Acura’s JewelEye ™ LED headlights, the MDX achieves top marks.
To earn the SAFEST CHOICE + recognition, a vehicle must score well for crashworthiness in all test modes, including the challenging Passenger Side Small Intrusion Test. You also need to have frontal collision avoidance systems (standard on mdx, RDX and TLX) that score advanced or higher in both vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian tests and headlamps with a standard score of good or fair.
