Mahindra & Mahindra’s Farm Equipment Business (FEB) reported a strong performance in May 2026, recording a 23% year-on-year increase in domestic tractor sales as favorable agricultural conditions and improved farm economics continued to support demand across India.
The company sold 47,845 tractors in the domestic market during May, compared with 38,914 units in the same month last year. Total tractor sales, including exports, reached 49,695 units, representing a 22% increase over the 40,643 units sold in May 2025.
Exports also registered steady growth, rising 7% year-on-year to 1,850 units during the month.
Commenting on the performance, Veejay Nakra, President of Mahindra’s Farm Equipment Business, attributed the strong sales growth to the timely completion of the Rabi harvest season and favorable terms of trade for farmers, which enhanced purchasing power and supported tractor demand.
The strong momentum was also reflected in cumulative sales figures for the financial year to date. Domestic tractor sales for the first two months stood at 94,249 units, up 22% from 77,430 units during the corresponding period last year. Total sales, including exports, reached 98,106 units, also representing a 22% increase year-on-year.
Export volumes during the cumulative period grew 18% to 3,857 units, highlighting the company’s expanding presence in international markets.
Mahindra, the world’s largest tractor manufacturer by volume, continues to benefit from strong demand in India’s agricultural sector, where mechanization remains a key driver of productivity and rural economic growth.
Industry analysts note that favorable crop conditions, stable commodity prices, and government support for the agricultural sector have contributed to improved farmer sentiment, supporting demand for farm equipment across major agricultural regions.
The latest sales figures reinforce Mahindra’s leadership position in India’s tractor market and underscore the resilience of the country’s rural economy despite broader global economic uncertainties.
With the monsoon season approaching and rural demand remaining robust, Mahindra is expected to maintain strong momentum in the coming months as farmers continue investing in modern agricultural machinery to enhance productivity and efficiency.
