Maruti Suzuki India recorded a strong increase in vehicle production during May 2026, with total output rising to 230,041 units compared with 195,882 units in the same month last year, reflecting growing demand across key segments.
The country’s largest carmaker produced 226,100 passenger vehicles during the month, marking a significant increase from 193,466 units produced in May 2025. The company’s utility vehicle portfolio emerged as the primary growth driver, with production surging to 98,694 units from 78,873 units a year earlier.
Models in the utility vehicle category include the Brezza, Ertiga, e Vitara, Fronx, Jimny, Invicto, XL6, and select OEM models. The strong performance underscores the continued popularity of SUVs and multi-purpose vehicles among Indian consumers.
Passenger car production also registered healthy growth. Output of mini cars, including the Alto and S-Presso, climbed sharply to 18,656 units from 10,186 units in May 2025. Production in the compact car segment—which includes popular models such as the Baleno, Celerio, Dzire, Ignis, Swift, WagonR, and OEM models—rose to 95,337 units, compared with 90,001 units in the corresponding period last year.
Combined passenger car production reached 113,993 units, up from 100,187 units a year ago, highlighting sustained demand across both entry-level and compact vehicle categories.
The only segment to witness a decline was vans, where production of the Eeco fell slightly to 13,413 units from 14,406 units in May 2025.
Maruti Suzuki’s light commercial vehicle segment also delivered strong growth. Production of the Super Carry increased to 3,941 units, compared with 2,416 units in the same month last year, contributing to the company’s overall production expansion.
The company’s total production growth reflects improving market conditions and robust consumer demand across multiple vehicle categories. The surge in utility vehicle output aligns with the broader industry trend of increasing preference for SUVs and crossover vehicles, which continue to account for a growing share of passenger vehicle sales in India.
With production levels reaching more than 230,000 units in May, Maruti Suzuki appears well-positioned to meet rising customer demand while strengthening its leadership in the Indian automotive market.
